Being made redundant can affect how you're assessed for child support and your ability to pay it, especially if you receive a redundancy payment.
Current tax year's assessment
Your child support assessment for the current tax year will not be automatically affected by any redundancy payment you receive this year. The redundancy income will be included in your child support assessment for the following year instead.
However, a child support review or court departure order may take a redundancy payment into account at any time.
Next year's assessment
Because your redundancy income is included in the next year’s child support assessment, your overall income may be too high compared to what you’ll actually earn.
In this case, you may be able to estimate your income once you’ve received your assessment for the year. Find out if you meet the requirements to estimate and what it might mean for you.
Exemptions from paying
If you have an exemption from paying child support, you need to contact us to find out if you still meet the requirements.
